Matariki Celebration

At 6am on Tuesday 21st June - the dawning of Matariki and the beginning of the Winter Solstice there were a group of hardy souls gathered in the gardens at Oamaru Intermediate, ready to ring in the Maori New Year, in style. The hangi pit had been dug and the vegetables chopped the previous day.

SCHOOL ABSENCES & LATENESS

Parents are required to report their child's absence before 9am each day. We have had a large number of students arriving late to school each morning. School starts at 8.45am. Please ensure your child arrives to school on time.

You may have seen our Facebook post last Friday explaining how our tamariki brought 740 (ish) cans to donate to the Oamaru Foodbank. WOW, what an effort, again whanau have stood up and supported our community. We could not be more proud of Oamaru Intermediate.

O.I.S. School Jackets

The cooler days have arrived.... Navy school soft shell jackets are available at the school office. Unfortunately, there has been a price increase - Sizes 10-14 $75, Sizes XS, S, M, L, XL $85.

Friday 17 June - Mufti Day and 1.15 pm finish

Making a difference in our community - OIS is having a MUFTI DAY on FRIDAY 17 June. To be included in the mufti day we are asking students to bring a can, or more, of food to help stock the Oamaru Food Bank. This means that students can wear their normal clothes for the day. REMINDER that we are also finishing at 1.15 pm on Friday due to an NZEI stop work union meeting.

NZEI PAID UNION MEETING

IMPORTANT NOTICE - Oamaru Intermediate teachers, who are members of NZEI Te Riu Roa, will be attending a paid union meeting on Friday 17 June at 1.30 pm. The school will be closing at 1.15 pm, we are able to provide supervision for the afternoon if needed, please email your teacher or contact the school office.

The 2022 House Captains attended the National Young Leaders Day in Dunedin on Tuesday. They listened to many inspirational speakers who focused on resilience and shared with them the challenges they had to overcome while on their journey.

Thankyou from O.I.S.

We were able to purchase 32 jackets with a Community Group Grant from Waitaki District Council in 2021. The jackets will be able to be used by Year 8 students during Camp week. Looking great guys!

Learning Conversations (Please see note regarding supervision)

ONLINE BOOKINGS ARE NOW CLOSED. These will take place next Wednesday 8 June. It is expected that you and your child will meet with their classroom teacher. If you havent booked a time, teachers will send one home with your child. We are asking you to keep your child at home on that day, as the Learning Conversations will be from 8.15 am - 6.15 pm. If you are unable to keep your child at home you need to contact the office on 4370822 ASAP. Supervision will be provided for any students needing to remain at school especially if they are a bus student.

Year 8 Raincliff Camp Costs - $330

All Year 8 students were assigned the full camp amount of $330 which you will have seen on the Request for Payment which was emailed out earlier this week. You can opt to pay the full camp amount of $330 or be part of our fundraising opportunities which began this week with the Raffle.
