Kia ora students, whanau and community

The start of the year is an exciting time at Oamaru Intermediate. The classes are abuzz with talk, with engagement, and the establishment of new connections and relationships being formed. We also think about our goals and direction for the year, and beyond, and even more so right now. Starting last year, we have been analysing our Strategic Plan, which includes our vision, our mission and our school values. This journey came about due to so many global and societal changes over the past few years. Schools have been placed in everything, from technology and social media to finance, and in New Zealand, a renewed curriculum. As part of this journey, we would appreciate your help with a survey about our Strategic Plan. More details are included below.

Strategic Planning - your feedback is needed

We have been asking if our vision, mission and values are relevant to our community now, do they embrace current beliefs, what we want for our children in today's society, do they inspire the students to learn, take risks, find connections and engage in being curious.

Strategic planning is not merely a process; it's a mindset that fosters proactive decision-making and long-term success. It empowers all stakeholders to proactively shape their future, navigate uncertainties, capitalise on opportunities and ensure that everyone is working toward common objectives.

OIS prides itself in consulting with our stakeholders in decisions that drive our direction. Every stakeholder brings a unique viewpoint and diverse insight shaped by their experiences and interests. All stakeholder's voices need to be represented in our decision-making process. This in turn broadens the pool of ideas, leading to innovative solutions and a more comprehensive strategy. By engaging with all stakeholders, we create a more sustainable and successful strategy.

It is now your turn to give us some feedback. We would greatly appreciate you taking 4 minutes to complete this survey. Thank you in advance.

Meet the Teacher

It was wonderful to meet so many of our community on our Meet the Teacher night on Tuesday. Thank you to those who took the time to come along but we also appreciate that not everyone that wanted to make it could be available at that one determined time. Please feel free to connect with your child’s classroom teacher if you wish to meet them.

Fire drill

Today we trialed our emergency system with a fire evacuation drill. We have robust systems in place to ensure the safety of everyone on site. This drill was completed with everyone following instructions and within a short time frame - well done to everyone.

As part of our health and safety plan each term, we run a fire drill and a lockdown drill. We hope that we never have to use them, however, it is extremely important to be prepared. Before the end of the term we will be participating in a lockdown practice, rest assured that we will be talking again to students at assembly and teachers will be following this up in class.

Wishing you a happy and safe weekend
