Our Purpose: To prepare students to be active participants who will contribute to their community.

Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka

It is wonderful to see all our students back after a two-week break. This term we have a real focus on Learning with Purpose and working hard to achieve our goals. You can support your child this term by ensuring they have a good night's sleep, have all the gear/uniform needed each day, and support your child reading for at least 30 minutes a day. While audiobooks and digital books have their place, we certainly still encourage students to engage with hard-copy text, which can come in the form of a novel, newspaper, or magazine. Don’t forget to take 5 minutes to ask what your child is reading about.

During the holidays we had two exciting projects completed; our asphalt behind the library, and our new demo kitchen bench in the Food Technology room. Our demo bench was supported by Network Waitaki who generously donated $6123 towards our project.

We are excited that the library furniture has arrived and next week we will be working hard to get the library back up and running. This will certainly support our Literacy programmes and mean that students can take books home to read.

Health education

As part of the Oamaru Intermediate School Year 7 and 8 Health and PE Curriculum, your child will be taking part in the school’s “Positive Puberty” programme. The learning outcomes for this unit will enable the students to work towards the achievement objectives of Health and Physical Education in the New Zealand Curriculum. This unit of work will provide students with the knowledge, understanding and skills to develop positive attitudes towards the changes they will experience during puberty.

Bike safety

If your child is biking to school on a day with poor visibility, please ensure they have a high-vis jacket on and lights to ensure that they can be seen. If students need a high-vis jacket please come and see the office. This a reminder that children are not to ride on the footpath.

Ski trip

Mr Cartlidge is looking at running a Ski trip later in the term. If you are interested in attending this, then please complete the form below so that we can see if this is something our students would like to do. Any inquiries please contact paulc@oamaruint.school.nz

  • 95% of students know what to do and can seek help if someone is being bullied

  • 99% of students respect the staff at OIS

James Hargest

The James Hargest car wash this weekend has been postponed.  We will let you know when this will take place.
