Check out what's happening around Oamaru...

The Waimate Rodeo Club for the last couple of years has held a 'youth jackpot' for kids aged 5-18 - where they can come along and have a go at steer riding - where they can initially learn on a pretend animal - how to hold on/ move with the animal before having a turn on a live steer. There are different grades of steers depending on the age/ weight of the children.
When: Saturday 23 November, at the Waimate Showgrounds from 10 am.

We would love it if you could share this information with your students/ parents For more information check out our Facebook page (see attached info)

Helping Billy

To help raise funds to get my grandson Billy to therapy, we have organised a big Weston Gala Day held on Saturday 11th Jan 2025. We are having a colouring competition and hoping you would kindly offer it to your students and add it to your newsletter for the children to complete. Entries will be able to be submitted to either of the New Worlds or Woolworths, they will all have boxes at the customer service desk. All winning pictures will be displayed at the Weston Gala Day and notified prior. There are prizes to be won and we are hoping the competition will help spread the word about the Gala Day.

Billy was born with a rare brain condition called Holoprosencephaly, he's now 20 months old, and can't walk, talk or even sit up. Therapy is his only hope but we can't get him there without community support. Billy and his family live here in Weston, Oamaru. Without warning, the government stopped funding his therapy and now we are left having to find the funds to get to Australia for his intensive therapy as this kind of therapy is not here in New Zealand.

We appreciate your support.

Kindest Regards

Karen Fraser (Billy's Nana)

Community Conversations and share the rich unique stories from your community to help us bring the Waitaki Story to life.

The Waitaki Story project has been developed to create a new-look district brand that reflects our enduring character, our under-stated but impactful history, and the way we live by our values and stay connected to our people here.

This story was developed through many conversations and stakeholder sessions, and we are really excited to bring it back to you, move on to capturing the elements and icons that are unique to your corner of Waitaki that will help us collaboratively bring our Story to life, and move forward with township entry signage.

Let’s give this Story a go and get on with bringing it to the world!

We appreciate that this is short notice, and these dates won’t work for everyone, but we are working on ways to hear your stories outside of these sessions too – this is just the start.
