Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka. This week we welcomed Tahuna Intermediate to our school for our Annual Sports Exchange. I was so proud of how well our students participated and encouraged each other during the games. We didn’t get the overall win however, O.I.S was very competitive and played with excellent sportsmanship. It was also fantastic to see so many of our WBHS and WGHS supporting our exchange by coaching and umpiring teams.

A huge amount of mahi goes in behind the scene to ensure we can have these sporting exchanges. A special thank you to Sharon Wilson for all the hard work and extra hours to ensure these events run well. Many thanks to teachers and parents for the ongoing support of these teams.

Last night Archie Holding and Tara Garrett accepted a grant for $6,123 from Network Waitaki, this money will go towards the upgrade of our Food Room where we are installing a demonstration bench. I am incredibly grateful for this support, as it continues to ensure that O.I.S. can continue to have the most effective Technology Programme for Intermediate students in North Otago.

We are looking forward to welcoming a number of our whānau at our Matariki Celebration on Thursday, this is a wonderful opportunity for you to come to celebrate with us.

If you have visited O.I.S lately you would have noticed that we are back in our Administration Block which is extremely exciting, and we can now move on to the next phase of our renovations at O.I.S. with the upgrade of Rooms 9 and 10. During the holidays our Library is having its shelving units installed, I am certainly looking forward to seeing the Library back up and running.

At O.I.S. we pride ourselves on providing students with various opportunities and this term we have been trialing our new Friday Options Programme. The students have opted into an activity that has taken place over 7 weeks. We have everything from Sports Coaching, Spanish, Cafe Club, Wood Club, Music, Pasifika Creations, STEM, Debating, Community Service, High Performance, and many more. The groups are small so we are able to utilise our technology teachers for this programme.

Next Thursday we are having a garage sale from 2.00 pm - 5.00 pm. There is everything from shelves, cupboards, seats, filing cabinets, and drawers. Watch our Facebook page for more details.

Well done to everyone that participated in the 40-hour Challenge. We have raised $1,728.10 so far, which means that Miss James will be getting a haircut! Please return all money and booklets by Wednesday next week. We will announce prizes at the beginning of Term 3.

Our enrolments have opened for 2023 for both in-zone and out-of-zone. We have a number of out-of-zone placements for next year now that our classroom spaces are back up and running after the renovations. If you would like to know more about our enrolment process, email enrol@oamaruint.school.nz
