Principal's Message...

Our Purpose: To prepare students to be active participants who will contribute to their community.

Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka.

I cannot believe we are at the end of Week 2 in Term 3. As I sit here and reflect on the past few weeks, I feel very grateful for the supportive and caring community that I live in and the people with who I have around me here at O.I.S.

Today has been a very exciting day at O.I.S, we have been able to watch the crane at work placing the new classrooms in place. We are super grateful to have seen the sun this week to ensure that this work can be completed. I know the students are excited about seeing these completed. Check out the photos below!

Your support on Monday allowed us as a staff to participate in a professional learning and development day. We began to reflect on our current curriculum and begin to unpack the Curriculum Refresh that the government are implementing. The students will start their journey next term with our first unit; New Zealand Histories.

Our 2023 enrolments opened last Friday and we are excited to see a number of in-zone enrolments and out-of-zone applications coming in. All our enrolments are online this year. If you know a family or friend who is interested or intending on enrolling their tamariki for 2023, then please encourage them to check out our website regarding the enrolment process.

We are super excited that this time next week we will have welcomed James Hargest onsite. Unfortunately, due to Health and Safety Policies, James Hargest will be staying at Camp Iona instead of being billeted, as per previous years. We are still going to be peering students from James Hargest with a class to allow students to mix with others.

If your child is intending on watching the sport on Wednesday night we do ask that you come with them. We will need a hand at the end of the night for a general clean-up at the Recreation Centre.

The social on Thursday night is free and only open to students who have participated in a team or event throughout the exchange. If your child is coming to the social, we ask that they leave their cell phone at home.

We are extremely proud of the partnership and sponsorships that we have with our local businesses and community. I am always incredibly humbled by the generous community we live in, if your business or whanau would like the opportunity to partner with O.I.S, please contact our office.

Mark the date on your calendar, Monday 22 August, as we will be having our Cross Country on this day. This year we are looking at something different and taking all the students to the race course. There will be an opportunity for those who want to compete either as a competitive or non-competitive. More details to come.

Kind regards

Rebecca Meek
