Principal's message...
Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka.
As another week draws to a close, I am certainly grateful for the hot, sunny days we’ve been experiencing. With the weather heating up, it’s super important to ensure that your child has a plain black or blue hat at school every day. This will be essential for Athletics Day next Wednesday.
Over the last few weeks, we’ve had many students achieving amazing results outside the classroom. Our OIS chess team—Caleb McDonald, Fynn Still, Luka Faria, and Yahya Mir—travelled to Wellington to compete in the National Chess Tournament. It was a wonderful experience for them, and as a bonus, they got to attend an All Blacks game! Thank you, Mr. Martin, for your support in making this happen.
During the second week of the holidays, we had several students participating in the South Island Basketball Tournament. For many, it was their first time competing, and our girls’ team came second—a fantastic achievement! Last weekend, Jayden McMurtrie and Cash Louden represented our school in the Aoraki Secondary Schools Sports Mountain Biking at Mt Hutt. Cash placed 5th and Jayden placed 7th—well done to both boys, as the track was extremely challenging.
We also have many students involved in summer sports, and it’s great to see so many participating in these opportunities. This year, we have two Flippaball teams, three Futsal teams, four Volleyball teams, and twelve Touch teams—a huge thank you to everyone involved in each of these teams.
Today, North Otago Cricket is here with the Summer Festival, and we had six OIS teams are participating. It was great to see our field full of sports.
As we head into a long weekend, just a quick reminder to keep an eye on what your child is doing online, especially on social media. Simple conversations about what to do if they see or receive something inappropriate, and who they can turn to for help are always important.
Camp deposit - Year 7 students
Just a reminder that your child's $100 camp deposit is due by next Thursday 31 October. This can be paid using either fundraising dollars or through direct payment.
Student Invoices
All student invoices will be emailed home tomorrow. Please keep an eye on your inbox, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Lastly, a thank you for your support today as the staff at OIS participate in professional development. A reminder that school is closed on Monday as it is a public holiday, Labour Day.
Enjoy the long weekend!
