Our Purpose: To prepare students to be active participants who will contribute to their community.

Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka

As we come to the end of another week, there has certainly been a lot happening. The students are back in technology and today is our first round of the Friday Options programme. Our Options programme is an opportunity for students to opt into an activity or group that they are interested in. We have a number of different sessions happening for both Year 7 and Year 8 students: Debating, Spanish, Cafe Club, Music, Build group, STEM, Theatre Sports and Drama, Community Spirit, Googling, Cultural activities, Glee Club, Sports Coaching and Game Design.  If your child has trialled for a James Hargest team, they will find out over the next couple of weeks if they have made a team. We have had a number of trials take place at school, and it has been excellent to see a large number of students taking up the opportunity to get involved.

Unfortunately, not all children can be selected for the teams that they have trialled for. While we celebrate those students who have gained a position in a team, it is important that we acknowledge the feelings of disappointment. As we know in life, whenever we put ourselves out there to trial, or be selected for an opportunity, or sports event, not everyone can have a place. It is important that we acknowledge disappointment with our children and the feelings that can come with this. It is perfectly normal to be disheartened when we don’t get something, but we must keep putting ourselves out there. I believe that these experiences hold an incredible opportunity to build resilience.

Student Led Conferences On Wednesday 7 June

Our Student Led Conferences will be taking place. We are asking you, if possible, to keep your child at home on that day, as the Learning Conversations will be from 8:15 am - 6:15 pm. If you are unable to keep your child at home, we have teachers that will supervise your child. Please contact the office at 4370822 or email office@oamaruint.school.nz to inform us if your child needs to be at school that day. If you haven’t made time for a conference then please go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz The event code is: unsn9  Please follow the steps to register your time/s. Online interview bookings close Thursday 1 June at 9:00 am. If you don’t have internet access, please phone the school office and they will make an appointment for you.

Tik Tok

A number of our students are using the platform Tik Tok to watch videos, communicate with others and upload videos. Like all social media platforms, it is essential that as adults, we have a really good understanding of what our children are doing online, who they are connecting with, and how much time our children are spending online.

Have a great weekend.
