Kia ora OIS whānau

We have enjoyed seeing the tamariki all back at school this week, it is lovely to hear the buzz of the students back in the school. I wanted to draw your attention to a very unsafe Tik Tok clip that we have become aware of.

The clip is of young adults holding their breath and sticking their thumb in their mouth until they pass out.

While we are aware that the Tik Tok app requires that users be at least 13 years old to use the full TikTok experience, we know that a number of our students have access to this app, whether it be on their phone, tablet, Chromebook or gaming device.

We would appreciate it if you could please have a conversation with your child about safety. A key message to give your child is that just because you see something on a device, it does not mean that what they see is right or is real. Talk to them about having the strength to speak up when something has happened, no matter what your child feels like the consequence may be.

Please don’t hesitate to talk with us if you have any issues or concerns that arrive.
