Principal's Message...

Our Purpose: To prepare students to be active participants who will contribute to their community.

Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka.

It has been a huge week for a number of students and staff who have been involved in the preparations and games over the last two days. Our students were outstanding ambassadors for our school, both on and off the field. We are celebrating the win today, with the shield remaining firmly in our hands for yet another year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sharon Wilson our sports coordinator for all the work that she puts into ensuring that this event runs smoothly each year. A massive thank you to all our coaches, referees/umpires and managers for supporting our teams this year. Check out the JHC photos below.

Enrolment at OIS for 2023

Enrolments for 2023 and we are excited to see a number of in-zone enrolments and out-of-zone applications coming in. All our enrolments are online this year. If you know a family or friend who is interested or intending on enrolling their tamariki for 2023, then please encourage them to check out our website regarding the enrolment process.

Social Media

Social media can be a great thing when used correctly and with good intentions, and in a safe environment. Please remember to be kind and teach your kids about being kind when commenting or posting on social media – remember two of our values: engaging with mana, and acting with respect.

Parent links

Often I get asked a number of questions about restrictions and platforms that students are using to communicate with others.

The minimum sign-up age for Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube is 13. This is because a child’s social and emotional capability is still developing, which can make it more difficult to identify and manage challenges that occur on a platform designed for adults and teens. If your child is under 13 and keen to use social media, consider their capability to manage potential online challenges before setting up a profile. It is better if your child is honest with you as you can help them to stay safe online.

New World

I am well aware that a number of our parents pick up students from the New World car park after school, can I please ask that you don’t drop students off in the morning at New World, we have noticed that a number of our students are meeting at New World and walking down. It is also important that students don’t head into New World unless they are with you.

Good luck to all of our students who are involved in finals or weekend sports.

Kind regards
