Our Purpose: To prepare students to be active participants who will contribute to their community.

Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka

Today, staff and students took the opportunity to thank our support staff team. They are the “glue” that hold OIS together and ensure that our students get all the opportunities and support they need to achieve success. The Oamaru Intermediate Board commits resourcing every year, well over and above what the Ministry allocate, to ensure that class programmes are well supported with our support staff. Each and every one of our support staff team bring a set of strengths and solidarity to O.I.S.

I would like to extend my thanks to those of you who attended our Learning Conversations on Wednesday. Making the time to come and meet with their classroom teacher sends a direct message to your child that you are invested in their learning and the importance that you place on them having success at O.I.S. It also helps to keep building those positive home and school connections that are so important in ensuring successful outcomes for your children. While I know some of our whānau could not make it due to illness, please do make the time to do this when you are feeling better. It is expected that every student will participate in a Learning Conversation with their whānau and their teacher.

This year Oamaru Intermediate will participate in two Sport Exchanges.

  • We travel to Tahuna Intermediate, Dunedin
  • We host James Hargest from Invercargill.

It's been excellent to see a large number of students taking up the opportunity to get involved. Unfortunately, not all children can be selected for the teams that they have trialed for. While we celebrate those students who have gained a position in a team, it is important that we acknowledge the feelings of disappointment from those that didn’t make it this year.

We are busy planning our Matariki Celebration. On Tuesday 21 June, we will be putting down a Hangi and would love for you to come and join us for lunch. You are welcome to enjoy the hangi or bring your own lunch. We will need to know numbers for catering purposes. Please complete the form below to indicate if you will attend and how many whanau are coming with you. We are hoping to eat at 1pm.

I am incredibly proud of our students and the way they have demonstrated  our IDEAL values. Over the last 4 weeks we have had to make a number of changes with staff and timetables due to illness.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Oamaru Intermediate teachers who are members of NZEI Te Riu Roa will be attending a paid union meeting on Friday 17 June at 1.30 pm. The school will be closing at 1.15 pm. We are able to provide supervision for the afternoon if needed, please email your teacher or contact the school office.

The purpose of this meeting is for teachers to discuss the priorities for the renegotiation of their Collective Agreement in 2022. These meetings are a critical component of the negotiation process and it is the legal right of all members to attend a meeting and have their say. I appreciate that closing the school early is an inconvenience to our school community and we appreciate your support with this.

“He waka eke noa” We are all in this together.
