I cannot believe we are at the end of week 2 in term 3. As I sit here and reflect on the past few weeks, I feel very grateful for the supportive and caring community that I live in and the people who I have around me here at OIS.

This week was a very exciting week with the opening of Rooms 9 and 10. It has been awesome to have a class back in the space. I know the students are excited about seeing these completed.

Today we farewell Kim Kennedy from our team at OIS. Kim has been a very valued member of our team, supporting many students within our school. We wish Kim all the best with her next venture.

Our 2025 enrolments have opened, and Mrs Hirst and I have been out visiting our contributing schools. We are excited to see many in-zone enrolments and out-of-zone applications coming in already. All our enrolments are online this year. If you know a family or friend who is interested or someone who intends to enroll their tamariki for 2025, then please encourage them to check out our website regarding the enrolment process. Oamaru Intermediate is having its Open Night on Monday 26 August, and a number of our children will be involved in this.

We are extremely proud of the partnerships and sponsorships that we have with our local businesses and community. I am always incredibly humbled by the generous community we live in, if your business or whanau would like the opportunity to partner with OIS, please contact our office.

Mark the date on your calendar, Tuesday 13 August, as we will be having our Cross Country on this day. There will be an opportunity for those who want to compete either as a competitive or non-competitive. You are welcome to participate with your child.

Uniforms

We take pride in our uniforms and how we wear them. They are a point of difference for our community. We are noticing some girls continuing to wear makeup and non-uniform jewellery. Students can wear one pair of studs, one in each ear, and a watch. If your child wears a piece of jewellery that holds significant value then please send me an email. From Monday, if your child is wearing a non-regulation item the teacher will place it in a bag for parents/caregivers to collect from the school office. This also relates to items relating to makeup; eyeliner, mascara, eyelash curlers, or other similar items. We appreciate your support with this.

Kind regards

Rebecca Meek
