Principal's Message....

Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka. We have had yet another busy week at OIS with our Fun Run, WBHS mass choir, St John Weaving Wellbeing, St John First Aid and the League Tournament that has taken place today.

At OIS we provide many opportunities for students to get involved. Time and time again when I speak to past and present students and ask them what they love about OIS they often reply that we have beautiful modern facilities, but the most important aspect of our kura is the people. It is the connections and the relationships that students, staff and whānau make while they are here that are important.

As you know we are an IDEAL school, Acting with Respect is one of our core values. This isn’t just about respect for others but respect for ourselves and our environment. How we treat others and the environment is a direct reflection of how much we respect ourselves. It's been great to see students at break times interacting with each other and getting involved in a number of activities being offered. In class, this is about students getting on with their learning and ensuring they are responsible for their behaviour/actions and not worrying about others. At this time of the year, with the constant weather changes, we often find it is harder for students to manage themselves. Having enough sleep and eating balanced meals, is a huge part of students being able to achieve this.

Welcome

This week we welcome Fleur Lucas back to the team. Fleur is stepping into the Learning Support role. We are excited to have her expertise!

Camps 2025

The Year 7 students came home last week with information about camps. The purpose of camp is to develop a range of skills and give students a different experience. The focus of the Year 8 camp at the start of the year is to build/strengthen relationships, build resilience, and overcome challenges. This is one of the highlights for Year 8s and we expect all students to participate however, they are going to need your support to get there. With this in mind, we have planned some different opportunities for your child to fundraise to ensure that every child gets to camp. We are looking for raffle prizes and would greatly appreciate your support in sourcing these.  Mrs Forrest will meet with anyone who wants to take up the lotto bonus number fundraiser on Monday next week.
