O.I.S. Newsletter - 11 April, 2025
Our Purpose: To prepare students to be active participants who will contribute to their community.
It's hard to believe we're already a quarter of the way through the year; it has truly been a hectic term. It feels like just yesterday we were gathered at a welcome assembly, eagerly anticipating the start of the school year.
This week, we were thrilled to celebrate Tahlia Sherwin's graduation from her education degree. This is a significant achievement, and we are immensely proud of her dedication and success.
A huge congratulations to all the Year 8 students who recently returned from camp. We understand that sleeping away from home and embracing new challenges can be daunting. This week, we also celebrated our swimmers who represented the school at the Otago Swimming Competition, and our teams who participated in the EPPRO8 competition, with our Year 8 team winning the Otago region. Yesterday, two teams went to Timaru to represent the school in a Rippa Rugby tournament (photos attached). Both teams played incredibly well, winning two of their four games. Thank you, Jackie Edwards and Stuart Barnes who took these teams away. We are extremely grateful to everyone who supported these events. Your involvement makes these enriching opportunities possible for our students. A special thank you to our dedicated Year 8 teachers, Jude Garrett and Sharon Wilson, who organised and facilitated these events.
I'd like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank the students who have truly embodied our IDEAL values. The intermediate years are a pivotal time when students begin to discover themselves, and it's wonderful to see so many stepping up. A special shout-out to our exceptional staff for their unwavering commitment to making Oamaru Intermediate a place of positive, engaging, and fun learning experiences. They consistently go above and beyond to provide a wide range of cultural, arts and sporting opportunities. To our whānau/families, thank you for your understanding, support, and ongoing commitment to helping your children reach their full potential.
As we approach the holiday break, it's a timely reminder to stay informed about your child's online activities. Please take an active interest in who they are connecting with, both online and within the community.
Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday. May you recharge, refresh, and return ready for another exciting term!
