Our Purpose: To prepare students to be active participants who will contribute to their community.
Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka. Our winter sports programme is coming to an end. We have had high levels of participation across a variety of sports which has been great to see.
I wish to acknowledge the work of our Sports Coordinator, Sharon Wilson, for the excellent work she has done in this area. I also thank all coaches and managers, Erika Bishop, Natalie Preston and Hannah Johnston for their contributions to our sports programme. It's much appreciated!
Please remind your child about taking care of themselves when travelling to and from school. Take the opportunity to discuss with your child about being particularly careful when crossing roads. The roads around Intermediate are busy, so if your child scooters, walks or bikes, please encourage them to use a pedestrian crossing where available. Heading straight home after school is preferred and where possible walking, biking or riding scooters with friends always helps to keep students safe. We encourage children to do the right thing for their safety so please reinforce this message at home.
Yesterday, I had the absolute pleasure and privilege of listening to our Kapa haka perform at the Opera House for the North Otago Matariki Hui Ako. Our students had put in many hours of practice for this performance, which I was extremely proud of. A massive shout out to Vic Forrest for all her mahi in ensuring this group was ready for the performance.
Waitaki ara Kahui Ako
On Monday afternoon we had the privilege of working with staff from across our Ako (Community of Learning). This is an opportunity for all of our kura to get together and share what is happening within our kura and classrooms. Our very own Vic Forrest and Sarah Caldwell from Fenwick School run these sessions and we are incredibly lucky to have their knowledge and skill set in our Kahu Ako.
Being on time for school
O.I.S starts at 8.45 am. The information that students find out during the first 10 minutes of the day will set your child up for a positive day. Getting your child to school on time is one way that you can set your child up for success.
Uniforms
Our school uniform fosters a sense of identity, belonging, and pride in our students. It ensures a consistently high standard of dress is worn throughout the day and provides a cost-effective and practical dress code. We are incredibly proud of our uniform and how we look. Please check your child’s uniform and ensure that it is clean, tidy and named. Also, take this opportunity to check your child's shoes, we have noticed that shoes are not looking their best. Remember no canvas shoes! Non-regulation uniform items have started to re-appear. At O.I.S our rules regarding jewellery are
a watch
and a small plain stud in each ear.
nail polish, makeup and dyed hair are not permitted
Students are expected to have their PE gear each day at school and must come to school in uniform. We really appreciate your support in ensuring our students are in their correct uniform.
