Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka

This week our Year 8 students finished their EOTC camps, a massive thank you to everyone who has supported our EOTC program this year. A special thanks to the Year 8 teachers, Sharon, and the rest of the team who enabled this program to be so successful. I also want to thank the parents and caregivers of our Year 8 students who financially supported getting your child to camp.

Congratulations to our Chess team who competed in a Chess Tournament at S.K.C. this morning. Well done!

Our Out-of-School Music and Arts Programme started this week and we are super lucky to have Ben Blair and Jancie Joiner who are providing these programmes at O.I.S. If you want to know more about this opportunity then mail annekec@oamaruint.school.nz

We would love any donations of guitars that may be sitting at home and not being used, as we have a number of budding guitar players wanting to learn.

We are so grateful for the support we get from our community and recently we have received a donation from LJ Hooker which will go straight into the library refurbishment. Place Makers and Kennedy Transport have supported our Boys' Basketball team that headed away to Christchurch in the holidays for a tournament. If you would like to sponsor O.I.S in any way then please don’t hesitate to touch base with me.

With the weather cooling down, especially in the morning, it is important that students do not arrive at school before 8.30 am. Thank you for your support in ensuring your child is wearing the correct school uniform. Your child is allowed to wear a jacket outside at break times as long as they have an O.I.S blue jersey or polar fleece underneath. We do have a school jacket at the school office however, this is not compulsory. Students are also able to wear long grey dress pants on cold days.

Next Friday our students are encouraged to ‘Wear Something Pink’. This is a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of Bullying. Pink Shirt Day is an anti-bullying movement that celebrates diversity and creates environments where all people can feel safe, valued and respected. Each year, workplaces, schools, organisations and individuals join the movement to make a stand against bullying. I encourage you to also wear something pink to your workplace on Friday 19 May, and stand with your child and us, in celebrating diversity and STAMPING out bullying in our community.

Student Led Conferences

On Wednesday 7 June, our Student Led Conferences will be taking place. This is a very important opportunity for you and your child to meet with the teacher. Making the time to prioritise their education, and coming and meeting with their classroom teacher sends a direct message to your child that you are invested in their learning and the importance that you place on them having success at O.I.S. It also helps to keep building those positive home and school connections that are so important in ensuring successful outcomes for your children.

To enable these conferences to happen, our normal classroom programme will not be running that day. If possible, we ask that you keep your child home for the day if you are able to. Be rest assured if you cannot find an alternative for your child we will have teachers available to supervise your child for the day. Please contact the office on 4370822 to inform us if your child needs to be at school that day.

We have available 5 laptops to give away to families at the school office. These have been reset and ready for use. First in first serve.

Regards
