Principal's Message...

Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka Thank you to those families that were able to support our Showcase this week, it was wonderful to be able to present the many talents our students have. A very special mention to Jamie Cowie who co-ordinated the show and shared her singing talents with us, this certainly was an unexpected treat.

One of our greatest points of difference at Oamaru Intermediate is our technology centre and, this week our students had their option programme. This is an excellent opportunity for students to revisit an area of technology that they particularly enjoyed or may have a passion for. For our Year 7 group, this is a snapshot of what our Friday timetable may look like next year. I am looking forward to an exciting new timetable, so watch this space.

It was all go here on Monday with 176 students participating in an OIS rippa rugby tournament. I loved watching our students encourage and coach each other throughout the games. A huge thank you to Sharon Wilson, Hannah Johnston, Jason (and the team from North Otago Rugby), and let’s not forget our umpires. This was a wonderful opportunity and certainly a competition that we will continue to run. The sporting day was not over at 3.00 pm, with a number of our students heading over to the North Otago Athletics event. Congratulations to all of our competitors, you presented the school with pride.

Our Year 8 classes have each visited the Museum this week to look at our local history and the excellent resource that we have in North Otago. It has been great to see all our students out and about visiting some of the local resources in our area.

With only a week and three days left, it is important that we keep our students in a routine and working hard. Please support us by ensuring that your child is in the correct uniform and it is named, this includes the correct school shoes. There seems to be a number of non-regulation items creeping in.
