Principal's Message....

Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka.

As another week draws to a close I wish to express my thanks to everyone who has supported our students in their many activities throughout the term. This includes our sports teams, Kapahaka and Pasifika groups, choir, chess club, transport and camp preparations. Without the support of staff and parents giving up their time, we could not offer such a broad range of activities for our students to participate in.

This week, our students have been back over in our technology classes enjoying another rotation of technology. Make sure you ask your child about what they are currently doing in technology.

This week we had a Sports Assembly to celebrate a number of students who represented the school in hockey, basketball and netball. The awards included the Most Valuable, Most Improved and Fair Play. We are incredibly proud of all our students who received an award. We also took the opportunity to present our North Otago Cross Country place getters their certificates. It was awesome to have student Prefects from WBHS and WGHS attend our assembly and support our award recipients.

While not everyone can get an award it is still so important that we continue to strive to be the best that we can be in all aspects of our life. I am well aware that we are all human and can all make mistakes from time to time. One of the greatest things we can do when we make a mistake is own it and put it right because we can’t take it back, and we can’t undo the action. A huge part of growing up is taking responsibility for our own behaviour, and understanding that we can only control our behaviour and our response to others. As parents and caregivers, we need to let our children take responsibility for their behaviour by supporting them to do the right thing.

Heading into the next two weeks we are going to really focus on KINDNESS. While we are all getting tired and ready for a break, it is important that we stop and think about our actions and reactions. Especially take time to think about how we speak to others and the language we use.

Camp

On Monday I am lucky enough to be heading away with Rooms 13/14 - our first Year 8 classes heading to camp. This year all our Year 8 classrooms are heading to Raincliff Camp for four days.

New World

We are still having a number of students hanging out down at New World at the end of the day.  Please support us by ensuring that students are being picked up on time after school.

Enrolments

We are excited to see a number of in-zone enrolments and out-of-zone applications coming in. All our enrolments are online this year. If you know a family or friend who is interested or intending on enrolling their tamariki for 2023, then please encourage them to check out our website regarding the enrolment process
