Principal's Message......

Our Purpose: To prepare students to be active participants who will contribute to their community.

Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka.

This morning we woke to the sad news that Queen Elizabeth II had passed away. Her loss will be deeply felt throughout the Commonwealth and by countless people around the world.

As this week draws to a close I could not be more proud to be the Tumuaki of Oamaru Intermediate School. It has been an absolute honour to support our Pasifika and Kapa Haka group at their performances this week. In what has been a very challenging couple of years, it was so rewarding to have both these events go ahead and allow our students to shine.

Whaea Jamaya and Whaea Isabelle have put hours of work into supporting our students, to not only get to the performances, but own the stage.  Ladies, we can not thank your team enough for this commitment and are blessed to have you on staff.

This morning we had the Waitaki Boys' Choir perform at our Assembly with Mr Hinds directing and it was an absolute treat for our students. We started the Assembly with the singing of our National Anthem as a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Not only did we excel on the stage this week but also at the North Otago Cross Country which was held on Monday night in very cold conditions. Our students can be very proud of their efforts this week.

On Monday we are having a Sports Assembly at 9am to acknowledge the achievements of our winter sports teams and North Otago Cross Country representatives.

At Assembly this week I spoke to the school about our Treat Day, which will be held on the last day of term. This is an opportunity for us to celebrate the students who embrace the IDEAL values every day.

With a change of season in the air, students playing fewer team sports, the discussion about highs school for our Y8 students and the end of term fast approaching, we can see our students start to become a little unsettled, tired and less able to regulate their emotions. As adults, it is really important that we support our children as they work through this. This support comes in the way of boundaries, sleep, nutrition, and knowing what our children are up to in their downtime, especially if they are using social media platforms.

Here at school, we keep the expectations clear, students in routine, and follow up when students haven’t been able to uphold the values. It is really important that you keep in touch with your child’s teacher if you have any worries or concerns.

Camp

Thank you to those parents who are attending our Year 8 camps this year. We are all looking forward to it.  Start getting your child’s gear list together and if you need any support get in touch with your child’s teacher.

New World

Can we please ask that no students are dropped at New World in the morning before school. Students need to come straight to school. If you collecting a student from New World after school please ensure that you are on time and your child isn’t left standing outside the store or in the car park.

Enrolments

We are excited to see a number of In-Zone enrolments and Out-of-Zone applications coming in. All our enrolments are online this year. If you know a family or friend who is interested or intending on enrolling their tamariki for 2023, then please encourage them to check out our website regarding the enrolment process

Kind regards
