OIS - Returning to school on Monday: masks and correct uniform to be worn.

Kia ora whānāu, we hope, despite the terrible weather, everyone has enjoyed the school holiday break. We are certainly looking forward to seeing all the students back on Monday. On the recommendation of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, we are requiring that masks are to be worn in all indoor settings from Monday 25 July. This recommendation will be in place for a minimum of the first four weeks of the term and we will look to review then.

This requirement is largely based on advice that there is an increase in winter illnesses in schools at the start of Term 3 as students bring back infections after travelling and socialising during the holidays.

Along with mask-wearing, we will be continuing our other measures such as good ventilation, staying home when sick, regular hand washing, extra cleaning of classrooms and hand sanitiser.

On this note, all classrooms will have a supply of masks and sanitiser.

This recommendation does not include any situation where mask-wearing might not be practicable, such as while eating and drinking, playing certain musical instruments, indoor sport, certain activities such as singing or drama performances and PE. In such situations, particular attention should be paid to ensuring there is good ventilation during the activity and physical distancing where practicable.

We know that some of our learners and staff are exempt from wearing a mask. If they have an exemption card or a letter from their health provider, or we have agreed that mask-wearing is not practicable for them, we will support them in not wearing a mask. If your child’s circumstances have changed regarding mask wearing please let your class teacher know.

It is important that students are in full uniform, we noticed that a few students started to come to school with make-up, incorrect shoes and jewellery on. PE gear is only to be worn to school on PE/sports days. Please take the time over the weekend to ensure that your child has the correct uniform for school on Monday.

This term we are looking forward to our students making the most of more opportunities that are available.

As always we appreciate your ongoing support.
