Bus Transport

A town bus service operates. Families living 4.8km from school may qualify for transport assistance if Oamaru Intermediate School is the closest school. Country students travel on high school buses. Contact Pearsons by email oamaru@pearsonscoachlines.co.nz for more information and costs.

Cycles & Scooters

Cycles and scooters are to be walked into the school from the Arundel/Pembroke Street corners. We suggest cycles are locked securely in the bike stands provided. Scooters are parked in a cage that is locked between 9.00 am and 3.00 pm.

Home Learning/Homework

We feel homework has value in consolidating learning at school, preparing for learning in advance, and keeping parents informed about their child’s learning. There is an expectation that daily reading will take place and for some children learning spelling and basic maths facts may be necessary.

Stationery

You will receive a stationery list in December. The books on the list should last your child all year. We do not sell stationery, however Paper Plus will sell Oamaru Intermediate School book packs at “Back to School” prices in January. All children need to have their books named. They are not required to have them covered but may do so with appropriate material. All children need to have their stationery on the first day of school.

Learning Conversations

These replace traditional parent interviews. They are generally held in early June. We have an expectation that all students and parents will be involved. These three-way discussions with students, parents, and teachers are key to tracking student progress, celebrating achievement, and setting goals.

Valuables/Money etc.

In a school, the possibility that items of property will be lost or go missing exists and the school cannot accept responsibility for them or provide insurance cover. We discourage students from bringing unnecessary valuable items or sums of money to school. All personal items should be clearly named.
