Our Purpose: To prepare students to be active participants who will contribute to their community.

This week I was privileged to attend both Waitaki Boys' High School and Waitaki Girls' High School Prizegivings. What an honor it was to see so many of our ex pupils succeeding both academically, sporting and culturally. It was great to watch our youth of today crossing the stage, not being afraid to be there best selfs, and making the most of every opportunity put in front of them. Both Darryl Paterson and Liz Koni spoke about the trials and tribulations of what has been a very difficult year. They certainly left us something to think about.

Next Friday, we will be formally opening our new teaching block. The ceremony will take place at 9am and whānau are welcome to join us. We are certainly excited to move our students into these working spaces.

As the end of the year approaches we want to remind our whānau that we will need support from home to ensure that our ākonga are wearing their uniform with pride which includes appropriate black footwear. I am well aware that some students shoes are nearing the end of their life however, it is important that we uphold our uniform expectations.

Our teachers are currently writing end of year reports. These reports will give you an understanding about the learning taking place in class and their child’s dispositions for learning. A lot of time, effort and thought goes into each report and we know that whānau appreciate them.

We are going to have our second attempt at athletics day on Tuesday 8 November. Students need to be in PE gear and over at the park at 8.45am.

  • Bikes and scooters will be put in an area at the stadium. Lunches will be delivered to the stadium.
  • Children will need: PE gear or house colours, sunhat, a wet weather jacket, sunscreen, drink bottle, morning tea - lots of it.

Students will be returning to school for the afternoon, if we are rained off again.

Have a great weekend!
