We are well and truly in the swing of a new term that may be the busiest yet.
This week our Kapahaka group performed at the inauguration ceremony for the new Waitaki Councillors at the Oamaru Opera House. Thank you Whaea Jamaya and tamariki for your excellent performance.
As many of you will be aware, today is International Teacher Appreciation Day. Today for me is yet another opportunity to pause and be grateful for the people in our lives, the people that make a difference, the people that are in our corner, the people that hold us accountable, the people that care, and most importantly the people who believe in us.
Our fantastic support staff put a beautiful morning tea on for the teachers today. I often say to the staff and students at assembly that I am luckiest Tumuaki in education because I get to work with a group of dedicated, passionate and fun teachers who generally care for the tamariki. At OIS, teachers go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure our students get the best opportunities and learning experience possible.
Next Thursday, we have our school wide Athletics day at Centennial Park and students have been working hard to train for this event. Parents and supporters are welcome. Students are asked to go directly to Centennial Park in the morning for a 9.00 am start. As per OIS rules, please do not be there prior to 8.30 am. Keep an eye out next week for the proposed timetable.
Our Mufti Day yesterday was a great success and we raised $453. It was unanimously decided by our Student Council that the money raised will go toward supporting families in Oamaru and supplying presents for children at Christmas time. Thank you for your support.
On a final note, thank you for your support today in allowing us to take a professional learning day. Today is a valuable opportunity for us to come together and review our assessment practices, share learning experiences and make future plans.
