Our Purpose: To prepare students to be active participants who will contribute to their community.

Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka

It would be fair to say that winter has hit us and unfortunately this week we have seen a number of staff and students away from school unwell. Thank you for keeping your children at home when they are not well, I know this causes extra pressure on households.

Staff have worked really hard to ensure students have been able to come to school for their learning but, we can not guarantee that this will always be the case and may need to look at using our hybrid learning options if needed. Obviously we will communicate with you if, or when, this does need to happen and cater for students who need to be at school. I thank you in advance for your support.

We have had Youthtown, WGHS leaders and Youthline running their programmes within our school. I am always grateful for our strong community connections. We are excited to have the Talanoa Ako back with us on a Wednesday night.

We are well aware that a number of our students are active members of their community playing sports, participating in cultural groups, members of church groups and other activities outside of school. These experiences help students develop a strong sense of being part of a community.

An important part of our job as parents is ensure that our children come to school ready to learn each day. We have noticed since the start of the Term 2 that some of our students are finding Monday more challenging to slip back into routine, after the weekend. It is important to ensure your child has had enough sleep ready to engage in learning each day.

Our school is looking forward to holding a Matariki Celebration and would love any donations of kumara, pumpkin, potatoes and meat. If you are able to support us with any of these products please email jamayaf@oamaruint.school.nz.

I am always grateful for the generosity of our families who are always looking for ways to support others. This week we have had 2 bikes and 5 scooters given to us to rehome. I am sure that their are students within our community who would love these. Please contact the school office If you would like one of these.

On Monday and Tuesday we have a number of our Year 8 students giving submissions for The Forrester Heights Development. Well done Year 8’s for using your voices to help shape the future of our town.

Have a wonderful, safe weekend.
