Principal's Message...

Our Purpose: To prepare students to be active participants who will contribute to their community.

Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka

The term is fast coming to a close and our students are working hard to ensure we have a positive end of term. We really appreciate and thank you for your support to ensure students are in the correct school uniform and engaging positively with others. Teachers are continuing to remind and prompt students about our values however, in the end it comes down to individual choices. Please continue to reinforce our IDEAL values with your children. We are noticing that a number of students are exhausted and unable to sustain a full day at school. Please, if your child is not well or unable to regulate themselves, we do ask that they aren't at school.

Not only will we be farewelling 170 Year 8 students at the end of the year but we will be farewelling Olivia Hunter and Kelsy Fletcher who will not be returning to O.I.S next year. They have been valued members of the team here at O.I.S.

A huge thankyou to our Board of Trustees and P.T.A who work behind the scenes to ensure that our school is well resourced and supported. Lyndon Wardle has been a very valued member of our Board of Trustees for a number of years and will resign at the end of the year. We appreciate the time and commitment Lyndon has given. This week we welcome Ian Cathcart who has been co-opted on to our Board of Trustees.

Clarification

All parents/caregivers are able to come into the school office to speak with the office staff or collect a student or drop something off to a child. We ask that you wear a mask and sign in using the scanner app and the Vistab at the counter.

Diligence and Excellence Assemblies

We will be livestreaming our end of year Assemblies on Facebook. Students will be able to leave at the conclusion of these assemblies.

Thursday 9 December Diligence 1.30pm

Year 8 Social

To celebrate the end of Year 8’s time O.I.S, they will celebrate with a Social on Monday 6th December at 6pm-8pm in our school hall. We will be providing supper. They are to wear tidy clothes and leave their phone at home. Due to covid restrictions, we are unable to invite parents to this celebration.

Year 8 2022 Camping Programme

In 2022, Year 8 EOTC camps will happen at the end of Term 1/beginning of Term 2 instead of Term 4. Students will go on the camp in their homerooms with their home teacher leading the camp. Over the last two years, we have found the sustainability of these Year 8 camps difficult due to the increasing costs, inability to offer all students their first choice, and the time of the year as students are transitioning to High Schools.

One of Oamaru Intermediate’s strategic goals is to provide opportunities for all students in a caring and inclusive culture. With this in mind, we have restructured our E.O.T.C programme for Year 8 students from 2022 onwards. Their buddy class will also accompany them. We firmly believe that building and sustaining positive and effective relationships is the foundation of success at O.I.S. as it enables students and staff to build strong connections with their peers and each other.
