Principal's Message...
Our Purpose: To prepare students to be active participants who will contribute to their community.
Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka.
We are well in truly in the swing of a new term that may be one of the busiest yet. Children will be working hard this term not only in the classroom but participating in a range of different activities such as Youthtown, Cross Country, Stars on Stage, Kapa Haka and Pasifika groups have performances, just to name a few.
I will be traveling to James Hargest with a number of Oamaru Intermediate students on Wednesday. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped get our students to Invercargill next week and for all the hard work that is gone into coaching teams.
A very special thank you to Sharon Wilson for all the hours of work she has put into ensuring that this trip will be successful.
Today at assembly we were lucky enough to have Matt Brien talk to the students. Matt left Oamaru to play Basketball for the University of Nebraska Kearney. Some of our children were lucky enough to spend time in the holidays at a coaching clinic with Matt. Matt talked about how he got where he was and some of the challenges he has faced.
Today we celebrated four students who got their letter I badge for IDEAL. Well done Ariah Goodsir, Manatu Kautai, Isla Selfe and Jack Strachan (picture taken with Matt Brien).
Oamaru Intermediate is having an Open Night on Monday 16 August. A number of our children will be involved in this so please ensure that their uniform is clean and in pristine condition.
You would have read my newsletter yesterday to inform you that the Ministry has approved Oamaru Intermediate School’s Enrolment Zone. If you would like more information on the 2022 Enrolment process please see our website.
Thank you for your ongoing support with not sending your children to school when they are unwell. It is really important that you phone or text school before 9am.
If you have not read over the changes to the Health and PE Curriculum then please take the time to do this.
Health and PE consultation
As part of the responsibilities of Oamaru Intermediate School, we are revitalising our Health Curriculum to incorporate Section 91 of the Education and Training Act 2020.
This will include us teaching a wider variety of topics around puberty, identity, relationships and sexual health.
Part of our responsibility is to inform Whanau and our community of the achievement objectives and content that will be delivered in the programme.
Your feedback and knowledge is warmly welcomed as we are wanting to ensure that we are catering to all views, beliefs and customs of our O.I.S. community.
Children can be withdrawn from the content around contraception, which will only be delivered to Year 8 students.
This information will be used to ensure our curriculum complies with our legal obligations.

Important Dates
Oamaru Intermediate Open night, Monday 16 August @ 6pm - 7.30pm.
Mid Winter break, Monday 30 August SCHOOL CLOSED.
1pm finish, Thursday 16 September - we are able to provide supervision for those students who need it.
Cross Country Friday 20 August at 11am.
