EPRO8

On Tuesday afternoon two of our EPro8 teams travelled to Dunedin to compete in the Otago Regional Finals. For three hours our students raced to complete engineering challenges of increasing difficulty.

One team, the Lightbulbs, built a cage and motion-activated burglar alarm to protect an artwork they had also constructed. They then moved on to building a fan-powered netball game.

The Right Angles team chose to build an automated painting machine capable of repainting the interior of the hall we were in. The final part of the painting challenge was to calculate the surface area of the interior walls and then work out how much paint they would need to complete the job.

This team completed every level of their chosen challenge and received 30 bonus points for clocking the event. This left them in first place with 20 minutes to spare. Great effort The Right Angles.

They head to the Grand Final in Dunedin on the 14th of June. This is the 5th year we have participated in the EPro8 event and every year we've been selected for the regional finals. This is the first time we've made it to the Grand Final. We are so proud of all of our teams - mahi tika ana!
