Our Purpose: To prepare students to be active participants who will contribute to their community.

Tēnā koutou katoa, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka

It's been a very short but busy week!  Congratulations to all our students who represented the school at the North Otago Swimming Sports, we are very proud of you all. This week we welcomed Josh Acheson to our support team. Josh brings with him a number of strengths, music and basketball skills being some of them.

I would also like to celebrate Whea Isabelle, who last weekend  travelled back to Auckland to Graduate from her Mind Lab course. This course was designed to develop capabilities and skills in response to a new generation of highly digital students. I am sure O.I.S will benefit from her knowledge.

This week I was lucky enough to be a part of our Community of Learning Teacher Only Day. This was an opportunity for us to get together and begin to set our own goals for the year. These meetings are an opportunity for teachers from high schools, primary schools, kindergartens and the Intermediate to discuss education across sectors and communities.

Over the last few weeks I have written about what we can do to support our students to keep safe both in our school and community. Today at assembly I talked about the importance of standing up for what is right, being the person to have the strength and courage to get help or support when needed. Have a conversation with your child about what they would do if they found themselves in a challenging situation both inside and outside of school.

Phil Richardson will be leaving Oamaru Intermediate School at the end of Term 1. He has decided to have a change in direction and is going to take some time out with his family before he takes his next steps in his career journey. Phil has been a very valued team member and teacher at O.I.S. and his kind, caring and calm presence is going to be missed around the school. He is a role model for others and is always willing to go the extra mile to support the students in his class.

We are very lucky and excited to have Olivia Hunter joining our team. Olivia has a keen interest in the environment, bringing a background in environmental planning. She enjoys tennis, golf and opportunities to develop her creative interests. Olivia’s first day here will be Monday 29 March. To ensure a smooth transition for your child, Phil and Olivia will be team teaching until the end of the term. You will get the opportunity to meet Olivia on Wednesday 7 April at 6pm in Room 10.

The BOT has decided it was time to update the uniform policy. Please follow the link and have a read below.
