As week 5 draws to an end, it is hard to believe that we are at the start of a new month. We have certainly hit the floor running. Both Year 7 and 8 have had their first technology rotation, it has been great to see so much engagement and success for students.

At OIS we take pride in the conversations and interactions that we have; this includes both in school and out of school. A part of my senior management team's role is to have conversations with students and whanau when our IDEAL values have not been upheld. These conversations are an opportunity for students to reflect on and acknowledge their actions, and to work out other strategies that can be used.

We are a hands-off school, we provide opportunities at lunchtime for students to engage in physical activities supervised by our staff. We prioritise the importance of students being active and engaged in team sports, not only for the physical wellbeing but our mental/social wellbeing. Please encourage your child to get involved with the different opportunities at school, whether it be sporting, cultural or academic.

One of our values is Engaging with Mana. We are aware that a number of our students head from school and congregate in different areas of our community, one being the skatepark. Unfortunately, this hasn’t always been a place of positive interactions. In consultation with Police, we have asked them to come and talk with all of our students about safety and making good choices, this will happen early next week. If you're ever concerned with behaviour that is happening in our community, please don’t hesitate to contact us or let the Police know. We need to work together to ensure that students are safe.

Please Note:

Just a reminder that if your child is unwell or one of your family members have been tested for COVID 19 you must keep your child at home until you have received a negative test result.

Communication:

We are aware that there is an issue with our emails/newsletters getting out to families on our digital platforms. We are sorry for any inconvenience and hope to have this issue rectified as soon as possible. Please be patient and in the meantime check your spam as a number of our notifications are going to this.

Kind regards
